Carnival Themed Wedding

I’ve spent the better part of 2 months helping my son’s school plan a Spring Carnival. As the carnival is nearing (and because I’ve had carnival on the brain) I thought it would be fun to share some carnival themed wedding ideas.

The most important thing to remember when theming your wedding, whether it’s Harry Potter themed or Starry Night themed, is subtlety. Take your theme and water it down. You can use hints of color to make your point or small elements. When you take a theme and water it down so it’s not so blatant, you create a more elegant wedding design.

The Entertainers: Hire some entertainers for your reception/cocktail hour. Any of the following entertainers would be a unique & fun experience for you and your guests:

  • Fire-eater
  • Contortionist
  • Balloon animal artist
  • Petting Zoo
  • Trapeze artist
  • Clown (though they can be scary for children & adults alike)
  • Have some carnival games for guests

The Decoration: Decorations can make or brake a wedding design. As I stated above, you would want to take your theme and water it down a little. That means, if you want red & white striped fabric (very carnival-esk) either have only one small area that’s red & white striped or have some red and some white in different places but never together.

  • Drape white fabric from the ceiling like the inside of a carnival tent. You can even pair it with twinkling lights for a more romantic tone.
  • Colorful balloon arrangements either hanging like chandeliers or in vases like flowers.
  • Gold silverware or miss matched plates and glasses.
  • Paint some toy animals gold and use them to decorate tables or even as a cake topper.
  • Rent a fog machine to fog the dance floor
  • Send your guests admission tickets with their invitation

The Food: You could have a lot of fun with food options.

  • Carnival Themed Food Trucks
  • Candy Apple’s & assorted candy in jars and Cotton Candy
  • Popcorn Bar
  • Funnel cake or any sort of fried treat
  • Peanut bags (be weary of allergies)
  • Meat on a stick!

Brendan & Christina’s Theater Engagement

Brendan & Christina’s thespian stage engagement portraits on the Sam Houston State University campus.

It was a blisteringly hot day near the end of spring when I met up with Brendan and Christina on their old stomping grounds, the SHSU campus. While waiting for the temperatures to drop a little outside, we started our portraits on the campus’s theater stage.

I always enjoy doing things a little different and hadn’t taken any engagement photos of a couple on a stage or in a theater. It was fun being the only people in the theater and getting to recreate theater lights with my lighting.

After taking photos inside, Brendan and Christina took me on a tour of the campus (I’d never been there before). It was interesting taking photos in places that held such rich history and memories to the couple.

Galveston Engagement Portrait fun

Chris & Rachel’s put-put & pleasure pier engagement photos.

Most of the time, when I go to Galveston for engagement photos, it’s at the beach. This time, I got to start the engagement photos at a put-put golf place first! I had so much fun putting around (pun intended) with Christ & Rachel.

We shot a couple of photos at Magic Carpet Golf (a haunt of the couple’s). Chris and Rachel were so much fun and competitive. I loved their fun, bubbly personalities. After put-put, we headed to the Pleasure Pier, but found out we were about a week too early. Sad face. The pier wasn’t opened so we settled for beach photos with the pier in the background.

See the photos below.

Vincent & Melanie’s Hermann Park Engagement Photos

Vincent and Melanie chose to have their engagement photos out around the Hermann park area. They brought their furbaby, Rolley along for the ride. The day was beautiful and Rollie was so adorable with his bow tie!

I took their engagement portraits around the reflection pond at Hermann Park then we went into the Japanese garden to take a couple of shots there. We ended the engagement portrait session around the back side of the park wondering under the amazing canopies of trees and man-made hills.

Vincent and Melanie were super cute. I loved how much fun they had and all of the amazing laughs!

I love taking engagement portraits with furbabies!

Ben & Savannah’s Houston Engagement Photos

Ben & Savannah’s winter engagement photos around the Houston Museum District.

I met high school sweethearts Ben & Savannah at the McGovern Centennial Gardens on a gorgeous “winter” day in Houston. After taking some photos in the roses, we headed to the tall grass structure inside the garden (I honestly don’t know what it’s called). Neither of us had ever been to the top of it. We took some photos going up and down, then we were shooed out of the garden because it was closing.

The sun was so gorgeous as it set behind the old oak trees around the museum district. We decided to walk the diameter of the garden. There were lots of smiles, giggles and always some goofing off.

Ben & Savannah have been together for nearly 10-years and plan on getting married later this year on their family’s property. Congratulations on your engagement and your upcoming wedding! I know it will be amazing!!
