Top 10 Wedding Blogs for Weird-O’s

Where my weird-O’s at?!

[raising the roof]…[being told not to raise the roof]

I wanted to share some of my all-time favorite blogs for the geeky, nerdy and all around unique wedding couples.

*Note: the wedding blogs aren’t in any particular order. They are ordered as they came to me in my head (or on the internet).

Top 10 Wedding Blogs to follow

This is one of my favorite wedding blogs out there. They are so unique and cater to such a wide variety of people that you’re bound to find wedding inspiration here. I love perusing this site for wedding photography inspiration myself.
“We’re not worthy!” I feel like I’m not cool enough for this blog. It’s filled with all sorts of unique and confident brides and grooms. People with Mohawks, tattoos and uniquely colored hair.
This blog celebrates the unusual, the quirky, the interesting and above all, the unique aspects of weddings, events and festivals. They appear to be a UK based publication.
Inked as in “Make their mark on their day.” A blog for outside of the box for nuptials for creative and free-spirited couples.
If you have more of an artistic soul, this blog is for you. It caters to the artist in its readers. I feel like it could be a bit OCD as well… so if you have OCD tendencies, this might be the perfect blog for you. Let’s face it, artist are generally obsessed with perfection.
You know I had to include a southern blog. I Do Y’all is one of my favorite southern inspired wedding blogs. Of coarse they even have football inspired wedding blog posts (because that’s defiantly a southern thing.) lol
A UK based wedding blog, WWW caters to creative and joy filled real weddings. Styled photography shoots are great, but they are unrealistic when looking for inspiration for your own wedding. I love that they feature real weddings.
The Junebug blog has a specific site for Houston blogs, which is pretty cool. This is a sweeter, softer blog from some of the others on this list. What I really like is their color inspiration board. You can pick a color and find some great wedding inspiration.
They showcase beautiful inspiration, personalized and creative details, distinctive style and most importantly, love … lots of love. There’s fab photography, DIY projects, tips and trends, expert advice and fave finds.
For the modern day couple who follows the play of their own rulebook, for the couple who met online, the couple who loves the convenience of Uber Eats and for the couple who waits for one another to watch the next episode of ‘their show’ together.  So This Is Love is a wedding blog dedicated to showcasing your love story!

What do you think? Did I miss anyone? Let me know if the comments below.

Fall Wedding Inspiration

It’s almost fall, which means Oktoberfest beers… I mean my favorite color pallet is almost here!! I am obsessed with the color orange, so much so that my wedding ring has a Mexican Fire Opal in the center, my childhood bedroom is one part macaroni color one part mango and all of my sneakers are orange.

The weather will start cooling down and outdoor weddings will finally be bearable. We will start loosing the sun sooner sadly. That is the biggest thing I miss is longer days. Kids will be back in school, so your wedding guest list might be smaller than it would be during the summer.

Colors

orange, persimmon, peach, canary, cranberry, brown, indigo, beige.

Light warm colors with darker undertones seem to be the current trend. I recently saw a stunning image posted on Equally Wed that was a combination of a persimmon orange, peach and canary with grey and beige. It looked stunning.

Flowers

Sunflowers, calla lilies, chrysanthemums, Orchids, cranberries, greenery like ferns

Seriously though, I am digging the all sunflower bouquet look. It is so fun and sassy while still being on point with the fall theme.

Happy National Tequila Day!!

It’s national Tequila day, and I thought I might find some interesting tequila recipes for your wedding.

I don’t usually share food blogs, but I thought for Tequila day, I would make an exception. I scowered the internet looking for fun and interesting drinks, main courses and deserts. There were so many options it was hard to just pick a few. Also, I have a hard time following recipes. I tend to use the recipe as a guideline. I was glad I had family in town this weekend when I was preparing everything. They were my guinea pig.

Drink — Blackberry Lemonade Margarita

Let’s start with the drink. I have a family recipe for a frozen margarita, but I wanted to try something a little different. I LOVE blackberries and thought a black berry lemonade sounded very refreshing for a summer wedding drink. It’s also so pretty. This drink was sweet, tart and strong.

How did it go? Boy is this a strong drink! It could make you forget feelings.

(recipe here)

My changes — Most of my family is on a strict diet. I replaced the sugar (that actually goes into the drink) with Truvia and I used a 90 calorie lemonade from the store.

Main Course — Tequila-Lime Pork Tenderloin

How did it go? I made some adjustments to the recipe but basically, I had a really big piece of meat (that’s what he said) that did not cook in the amount of time the recipe stated it should. I didn’t think it would. My mom was a bit inpatient so the edges got a bit charcoaled because we cranked up the heat in the grill. It was a little dry, because it was cooked too fast.

(recipe here)

My changes — The main course I made several changes to. First, and foremost, I brined (2 qt water, 1/2 cup of salt and a dollop of minced garlic) the pork loin (8lb for 5 hours). You are supposed to brine an hour per pound, but the recipe didn’t call for brining and I was only doing it to open the pores a bit to allow more of the marinade in. The second change I made was to substitute half of the orange juice with triple sec. I also took the remaining marinade, added cornstarch and boiled it to make a sauce.

Cake

I was going to make something, but I ran out of time and I was afraid the dessert would be left for me alone to eat… no one wants to eat cake alone. Instead, I will direct you to a bakery I discovered.

Bundt-Cake-A-Holic is a Houston area bakery who makes boozy bundt cakes and wedding cakes. They have a VIP cake that has Silver Patron in it. I assume it is sort of lime flavored. I was really impressed with the prices, especially for the wedding cakes.

What does all this have to do with weddings and wedding photography? meh 🤷‍♀️

Alcohol and good food. That’s the correlation.

Summer Wedding Inspiration

It’s officially summer (in 2 days), and you know what that means.

Sweat stains, mosquito’s, and broken AC’s
Margaritas by the pool, fun at the beach and summer-time weddings!

Summer weddings in Houston can be a little tricky, but a lot of fun if you follow a few simple rules.

  1. Please, please, please do not have an outdoor wedding at high-noon in the middle of summer. Summer outdoor weddings in Houston can be really beautiful and tolerable closer to dusk, but stifling closer to noon.
  2. Be aware of your surroundings.
    1. AstroTurf traps heat. It could be 80 degrees in the shade, but 160 in the middle of the turf.
    2. Concrete reflects light & heat.
    3. Consider a wedding under ancient oak trees.
  3. Make sure you have a nearby facility with AC & cool drinks on hand.
  4. Offer fans or umbrellas to your guests for your ceremony (if you are having an outdoor wedding).
  5. Have a sunscreen & mosquito spray station.

Colors

Teal, pink, Lemon, Lime, violet

Fun vibrant colors are great for summer weddings. Make sure if you are going to have a darker color like violet to pare it with a brighter colors like lemon. You can find amazing color pallets on Pinterest by just searching “summer colors.”

Flowers

Succulents, sunflowers, daisy’s, baby’s breath, roses

When you HATE cake but you’re trying to be nice

So you hate cake, but you’re trying to be nice and appease you’re wedding guests. First off, it’s your wedding, do what makes you happy.

“It’s my party I can [do what I want]” I took some creative liberties there…

There is nothing in the rule book that says you HAVE to have cake. In fact, there isn’t a rule book. If you want  a giant gummy bear with a bow tie, get it. If you want to stay healthy and have a fancy fruit tower, do it!

I’ve shot weddings where the venue served a special desert instead of cake (there was still a cake cutting, but they didn’t offer any of it to the guests). I’ve shot a wedding where the couple had a giant rice krispie and some cake-pops in lieu of cake.

The Knot

There’s a new trend where weddings are offering wheels of cheese dressed up like cake. — Mmmm cheese! Sign me up for those weddings. Or what about a pegboard covered in donuts? Donut mind if I do (Thank’s for sharing this one Bethany)

It might be harder to get those cute “cake in the face” shots, but I find it refreshing to offer something unique and completely you instead of staying traditional to appease people.

Always be yourself, unless you can be Princess Leia, then be Princess Leia.

Would you (or did you) have something other than cake at your wedding? I’d love to hear what it was.

Nerdy Wedding Sign Inspirations

Nerdy Wedding Signs

Let your nerd hang out!

Achievement Unlocked -Studio222 Photography

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to share some amazing signs that I found to help inspire your nerdy wedding.

I feel like one of the latest trends that I’ve been seeing more and more is couples letting their nerd hang out. Before, people had traditional weddings where basically the color and maybe the flowers were the only thing that truly represented them. Slowly nerdy things started seeping into the industry. First the cakes, then small details in bouquets and boutonnieres to an all out, in your face ‘We’re nerds and we’re proud of it!’

I can’t even begin to express how happy this makes me feel.

@RFoxPersonalizations

So, let me start with the funny gaming signs I found. Andy Loves these ideas.

In my mind I see an adorable flower-girl with a wooden sign that says either “Game Over” or “Achievement Unlocked…” Maybe the “Game Over” heart is red on the back and she walks up the isle with the red heart then down the isle with the “Game Over” side. The Achievement Unlocked would also be fun to see at the head dinner table or as the wedding couple make their grand entrance. “Achievement Unlocked – Married”

Math reminds me of home. It might not have been my strongest subject, but any sort of math reminds me of my parents (who both have degrees in chemistry).

@HomeSweetSignsNH

This adorable sign, which was probably made to be displayed in a home would be adorable in a number of places. I could see it at the wedding party table, or at the alter. I could even see it being carried down the isle with a tail of numbers trailing it.

Man, do I LOVE Etsy.

Tell me what you think. Have you or a friend used a nerdy sign? What did it say??
