Crowns, Castles, and a Sith Lightsaber

Stefan & Beatrice’s Epic Newman’s Castle Wedding

There are some weddings that you know are going to be unforgettable the moment you walk in. And then there are weddings like Stefan and Beatrice’s.

I pulled up to Newman’s Castle on a warm June morning, already buzzing with excitement. I had seen their engagement session photos, I had heard about their vision, and I knew this wasn’t going to be your average “walk down the aisle, say your vows, eat some cake” kind of day. But even with all that anticipation, I wasn’t fully prepared for what unfolded.

Let me start at the beginning—because every great story deserves a proper introduction.

The Couple: Stefan & Beatrice

Stefan and Beatrice are the kind of couple that makes you believe in love stories again. Not because they’re perfect or polished, but because they are so unapologetically themselves. Beatrice has this warm, infectious energy that makes everyone around him feel like they’re part of something special. Stefan, meanwhile, has a quiet confidence and a laugh that lights up an entire room. Together, they balance each other out in the most beautiful way.

They’re also huge nerds. And I say that with the utmost affection.

When Stefan told me they wanted to incorporate a Dungeon Master and an RPG game into their wedding day, I knew I was in for something special. When Beatrice mentioned that her bridal party would consist entirely of groomsmen—sorry, bridesmen—I knew this couple was breaking every rule in the book. And when they both showed up wearing crowns, I knew I had found my people.

The Venue: Newman’s Castle

If you’ve never been to Newman’s Castle, let me paint you a picture. It’s this incredible, stone-walled fortress tucked away in Bellville, complete with a drawbridge, towers, and enough old-world charm to make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. It’s dramatic and romantic and ever so slightly whimsical—the perfect backdrop for a couple like Stefan and Beatrice.

The ceremony took place in front of the drawbridge, which was lowered just for the occasion. Stefan stood at the altar, resplendent in his royal red and gold outfit, his crown catching the afternoon light. His groomsmen flanked him, and I couldn’t help but notice that every single one of them had a sword at their side. One of them had a Sith lightsaber. I didn’t ask questions. I just photographed it.

And then Beatrice appeared.

Beatrice’s gown was unlike anything I’ve ever photographed. It was sky blue, flowy, and ethereal—the kind of dress that seems to float on its own. It was elegant and romantic, but it also had this playful, fairy-tale quality that suited her so perfectly. As she walked toward Stefan, her crown sparkling in the sunlight, I could see the emotion on his face. He wasn’t just looking at his bride; he was looking at his queen.

The two of them met at the altar, and the ceremony was a beautiful blend of tradition and personality. Their friends and family didn’t just witness the vows—they actively helped. It was a community effort in the truest sense. A friend officiated. It was intimate, heartfelt, and distinctly them.

It wouldn’t be a Texas wedding without a little weather drama, would it?

A light rain started falling during the cocktail hour, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of worry cross a few faces. But Stefan and Beatrice? They didn’t miss a beat. They laughed. They danced under the covered area. They toasted with their golden goblets and didn’t let a single raindrop steal their joy.

And then, just as the clouds began to part, something magical happened.

The sunset that followed was fit for royalty. The sky turned shades of pink, orange, and gold, casting the castle in a warm, ethereal glow. We rushed to capture portraits before the light faded, and I swear the photos look like they belong in a medieval fantasy novel. Stefan and Beatrice kissed on the drawbridge, crowns and all, and the whole scene felt like a dream.

Can we talk about the food for a minute?

Cocktail hour featured a charcuterie spread that was almost too beautiful to eat. Almost. The cheeses, meats, and fruits were arranged with such care—thank you to Heart and Honey Events for that gorgeous display.

Dinner came courtesy of Bird’s Barbecue, and let me tell you, nothing says “celebration” like brisket and pulled pork. It was comfort food at its finest, and every single guest went back for seconds. I even saw Stefan sneaking an extra piece of brisket when he thought no one was looking. I won’t tell if you won’t.

And dessert? Nothing Bundt Cakes delivered a cake that was as delicious as it was beautiful. But the cake topper was the real showstopper. Stefan and Beatrice had commissioned a custom topper featuring their two cats intertwined in a loving embrace. It was quirky, adorable, and so perfectly them that I couldn’t stop smiling.

And you know what? Everyone loved it.

Beatrice’s bridal party was all guys, and they were a delight. Each one carried a sword (or a lightsaber) as they stood beside her, and their camaraderie was palpable. They cheered the loudest during the ceremony. They danced with reckless abandon during the reception.

It was a beautiful reminder that love isn’t about tradition—it’s about choosing the people who make your life better and surrounding yourself with them on the most important day of your life.

The golden goblets made an appearance during the toasts, and I couldn’t help but think of medieval feasts as Stefan and Beatrice’s loved ones raised them high. The speeches were heartfelt, hilarious.

Here’s the part of the day that made me fall in love with this couple even more.

Near the end of the night, a Dungeon Master set up a table for any guests who wanted to participate in a quick RPG game. Some guests dove in headfirst, rolling dice and making characters with wild abandon. Others just watched, laughing at the antics unfolding before them. It was a slice of Stefan and Beatrice’s personality, offered up to their guests like an invitation to join their inner world.

At the end of the night, Stefan and Beatrice made their grand exit through a tunnel of bubbles, their crowns catching the light one last time. Their guests cheered. The bridesmen raised their swords in salute. And for one perfect moment, it felt like the whole castle was celebrating with them.

Stefan and Beatrice, I don’t know if you’ll ever truly understand how much your wedding meant to me.

In a world that often tries to box us in with traditions and “shoulds,” you two threw the rulebook out the window and created a day that was pure, unfiltered you. You wore crowns. You had a Dungeon Master. You had bridesmen with swords. You got married in front of a drawbridge, kissed in the rain, and danced under a sunset that belonged in a painting.

And through it all, you never stopped smiling.

Thank you for letting me be part of your royal adventure. Thank you for trusting me to capture the laughter, the tears, the nerdy bits, and the romantic ones. Your wedding was a gift to everyone who witnessed it, and I feel so lucky to have been the one behind the camera.

Here’s to your happily ever after—may it be as epic, as joyful, and as beautifully weird as your wedding day.

Why Your Wedding Photographer Should Be a Soulmate, Not a Side Dish

The hidden cost of “all-inclusive” venue packages and why you deserves a photographer who actually gets you.

You’re scrolling through Instagram, looking at gorgeous wedding galleries. The light is perfect, the couple is laughing, and the candid shots look like they belong in a magazine. You think, “I want that.”

Then, you tour a beautiful venue. The coordinator shows you the bridal suite, the grand staircase, and the twinkling garden lights. They hand you a glossy brochure with a price tag that seems almost too good to be true. It includes the catering, the flowers, the DJ, and… the photography.

Big Sky Barn wedding: Couple kissing in rearview mirror reflection with branded hat hanging on mirror

It feels like a win. One less vendor to research. One less check to write. One less thing to worry about.

But here is the hard truth: In the world of weddings, “convenience” and “chemistry” are rarely the same thing.

When you choose an all-inclusive package, you aren’t really choosing a photographer. You are choosing a slot. You are getting whoever is available on your date, often at the bottom of the venue’s preferred vendor list.

And while that photographer is almost certainly a skilled professional who knows their craft inside and out, there is a massive difference between a photographer who is available and a photographer who truly fits your personality.

Here is why you must fight for the freedom to choose your own photographer—for the sake of your photos, your sanity, and your party.

    1. Your Energy is Not Universal

Every couple has a vibe. Some are loud, chaotic, and love a good “scream into the camera” shot. Others are soft-spoken, romantic, and want a photographer to blend into the wallpaper.

If you book a photographer through a venue package, you are playing Russian roulette with personalities. You might be a laid-back, go-with-the-flow couple, but you get a photographer who operates like a military drill sergeant, barking orders at your bridal party for “the perfect pose.”

Your party feels that tension. Your bridesmaids can tell when the photographer is annoyed. Your groom can tell when the photographer is rushing. That energy seeps into the images. You don’t want to look back at your getting-ready photos and remember how stressed everyone was trying to please a stranger.

When you choose your own photographer, you interview them like a friend. You ask: Do they make us laugh? Do they make us feel safe? Do they understand that we hate stiff portraits? That chemistry is what unlocks genuine smiles.

    2. The “Wedding Machine” vs. The Storyteller

Venue-affiliated photographers often shoot hundreds of weddings a year at the same location. They know exactly where the sunset hits at 6:15 PM. They have a “shot list” that they run through like a conveyor belt.

But your wedding isn’t a conveyor belt. It’s a story.

An independent photographer that you choose is invested in your narrative. They aren’t just ticking boxes for the venue’s portfolio; they are looking for the way your mom tears up during the vows, or the way your best man clutches his speech notes because he’s nervous.

If you choose a photographer who specializes in “dark and moody” but your venue package gives you a “light and airy” shooter, your wedding album won’t look like your wedding. It will look like the venue’s brochure. You deserve a visual voice that matches your own.

boutonniere toss alternative, a bottle of tequila at the Grand Pines Reserve

    3. The “Party” Factor (This is Huge)

Here is the part most couples overlook until the reception starts: Your photographer dictates the energy of your dance floor.

There is a specific type of photographer who knows how to work a party. They aren’t standing in the corner with a massive flash blinding people. They are on the floor, crouching down, laughing with your drunk uncle, and hyping up the crowd to get wild for the sparkler exit.

If you get a “traditional” shooter through a package, they might wrap up early, or worse, they might kill the vibe by trying to pull you away for “just one more portrait” during the best song of the night.

Your wedding party is a moving, breathing, sweaty organism. You need a photographer who can read the room. You can’t read the room via a venue’s booking sheet. You have to meet them, see their reception galleries, and ask, “How do you handle a rowdy crowd?”

Groom pushing colorful streamers away during grand exit wedding photos

    4. The Editing Style is Personal

Let’s be brutally honest: every photographer edits differently.

    • Some desaturate greens and boost oranges (that “film” look).
    • Some edit for true-to-life color.
    • Some crush the blacks for drama.

The venue package photographer will edit according to their style, or worse, the venue’s standard template. But your skin tone, your wedding colors, and your venue’s interior lighting require a specific eye.

If you have dark skin, you need a photographer who understands how to expose for rich melanin tones. If you have a golden-hour ceremony, you need a photographer who knows how to handle backlight. These are nuanced skills that you cannot leave to chance. You need to see a full gallery—not a highlight reel—of a photographer who has shot people who look like you and parties that feel like yours.

    5. The Hidden Costs of “Free”

Here is the kicker: That “inclusive” photographer isn’t free. You are paying for them somewhere in that venue package price. Usually, you are paying a premium for a middleman.

Often, the venue pockets 20-30% of the photographer’s fee as a referral commission. That means the photographer is getting paid less than their standard rate to shoot your wedding. When a photographer is getting paid less, they are often less motivated, less experienced, or they are rushing to get to their next gig.

When you hire directly, 100% of your budget goes to the artist. You get the copyright, the high-resolution files, and the actual time you paid for.

How to Break Free (Without Breaking the Bank)

If you have already fallen in love with a venue that pushes an all-inclusive package, don’t panic. Here is your action plan:

    1. Ask for the Buyout: Ask the venue if you can “buy out” the photography portion of the package and bring your own. Sometimes they will deduct the cost.
    2. Do the “Vibe Check” Interview: If you must use the venue’s photographer list, ask to see 3 full galleries from your specific shortlist. Don’t just look at the couple; look at the guests. Are they having fun? Are the candid moments real?
    3. Trust Your Gut: When you speak to the photographer, do you feel relaxed? Or do you feel like you are interviewing an employee? If it doesn’t feel like a friend, it isn’t a fit.
Bride and groom kiss at Olde Dobbin Station wedding venue

    The Bottom Line

Your wedding photos are the only thing from this day that will last longer than the cake and the flowers. They are the artifacts you will show your children and grand children. They are the proof that you threw the best party of your life.

Don’t let that proof be captured by a stranger who just happened to be free on a Saturday. Fight for the photographer who makes your stomach flutter. The one who replies to your emails with emojis. The one who gets excited about your “weird” photo ideas.

Choose the artist, not the availability. Your future self—and your party—will thank you.

The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Wedding Photography (For Couples Who Don’t Want Awkward Photos)

Let’s be honest: the idea of being photographed all day can feel… intimidating.

        You might be thinking:

        • “We’re not models.”
        • “We’re awkward in front of cameras.”
        • “What if we look stiff?”

First of all: I hear you. Second of all: I’ve got you!

This guide is for couples who want beautiful, authentic photos—without the awkwardness, the pressure, or the cheesy poses.

romantic wedding day portrait houston texas

Step 1: Find a Photographer Who Gets YOU

        Look Beyond the Portfolio

Yes, you want to love their work. But you also want to love them.

Your photographer will be with you for one of the most intimate, emotional days of your life. You need someone who makes you feel comfortable, seen, and celebrated.

        Read Their Vibe

Do they mention “playful prompts” and “documentary storytelling”? Do they get excited when you mention your nerdy hobbies? Do they seem genuinely interested in your love story?

        Those are green flags.

Step 2: Book an Engagement Session (Even If You’re Nervous)

It’s Not Just Practice—It’s an Experience

I strongly recommend adding an engagement session to your wedding package. Why?

        • It gets you comfortable in front of the camera before the big day.
        • It builds trust and rapport with me—so by your wedding, you feel like you’re hanging out with friends, not posing for strangers.
        • It gives you stunning photos for save-the-dates, your wedding website, or just your walls.

I’ve seen it time and time again: couples who do an engagement session are so much more relaxed and confident on their wedding day. It’s not just about the photos—it’s about the experience and the practice.

If you’re on the fence, let’s talk. I can customize a package that includes everything you need—and nothing you don’t.

        It’s Also FUN

I promise. Our engagement sessions are playful, low-pressure, and genuinely enjoyable. By the time your wedding day rolls around, you’ll feel like pros.

Step 3: Trust the Process (Even When It Feels Weird)

I’ll Guide You Every Step of the Way

You don’t need to know how to pose. That’s my job.

I’ll give you simple, playful prompts that feel natural—not forced. We’ll direct you when needed and step back when magic is happening on its own.

        Awkward Moments = Authentic Photos

Some of my favorite shots come from the “messy” moments—the wind blowing your hair across your face, the laugh that turns into a snort, the tear that escapes during your vows.

Embrace it. That’s real life. That’s real love.

Enchanted Rock Elopement rainy wedding day

Step 4: Plan a Timeline That Prioritizes YOU

        Build in Buffer Time

Rushed photos = stressed couples. And stressed couples don’t look like themselves.

I’ll help you build a timeline that includes plenty of time for portraits, family photos, and—most importantly—time for you and your partner to just breathe.

        Consider a First Look

A first look isn’t just about photos. It’s about stealing a quiet moment together before the chaos of the day begins. It’s intimate. It’s emotional. And it gives you more time with your guests later.

But here’s the thing—a first look doesn’t have to mean seeing each other down a grand staircase in full attire.

        First looks can also be:

        • A first touch—holding hands around a corner, reading private vows to each other without seeing faces.
        • A private vow reading—exchanging your most personal words in a quiet moment, just the two of you.
        • A gift exchange—sharing letters or small tokens of love before the ceremony.

The magic is in the intimacy, not the tradition. However you choose to do it, that quiet, uninterrupted moment together sets the tone for the entire day. It grounds you. It centers you. And honestly? It’s one of the sweetest parts of any wedding day.

        First Look wedding day

Step 5: Remember What Actually Matters

It’s About Your Story, Not Perfection

Your wedding day will be filled with imperfect, wonderful, fleeting moments. The flower girl might cry. The cake might lean. Your officiant might forget to exchange the rings.

And those moments? They’re the ones you’ll laugh about fondly when you remember.

They’re not failures. They’re memories. They’re the stories you’ll tell at anniversary dinners. The things your friends will bring up at future weddings. The “remember when” moments that make your day uniquely, beautifully yours.

I’m Here to Capture the Real You

The you that laughs too loud. The you that tears up at sappy songs. The you that holds hands across the table when no one’s watching.

        That’s who I’m here for.

Not the “perfect” version. The real version.

What I’ve Learned About Love, Laughter, and Letting Go (A Mid-Year Reflection)

July always feels like a hinge month.

The first half of the year is behind us. The second half stretches ahead, full of possibility.

And in the quiet moments between editing sessions and coffee meetings, I’ve been thinking a lot about what this year has taught me.

Not just about photography. About love. About life. About the beautiful, messy, imperfect magic of being human.

Lesson 1: The Best Moments Aren’t Posed

I’ve photographed dozens of weddings. Hundreds of engagement sessions. Thousands of moments.

And the ones that stick with me—the ones that make me stop mid-edit and just stare at the screen—are never the “perfect” shots.

        They’re the ones where:

        • A groom gets emotional seeing his partner for the first time.
        • A bridesmaid fixes the bride’s lipstick and whispers “you’re stunning.”
        • A couple forgets the camera exists and just… dances.

Here’s the thing: I’m not the photographer who cries at every wedding. My husband jokes that I have a black heart and need to live vicariously through others. And honestly? He’s not totally wrong.

But when I see a moment so raw, so real, so them—that’s what gets me. Not the tears. The truth.

Those moments can’t be staged. They can only be witnessed. And that’s why I do what I do.

        Emotional wedding portrait moment

Lesson 2: Every Couple Has a Story—And It’s My Job to Tell It

        This year, I’ve worked with:

        • Dancers who choreographed their own first dance.
        • IT professionals who met in a gaming lobby.
        • Teachers who designed their wedding around their favorite books.

Every single one of them had a story worth telling. And every single one of them taught me something new about what love looks like.

        Love isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s quirky. It’s nerdy. It’s free-spirited. It’s yours.

funny moment on dance floor with bride and groom

        Lesson 3: Perfection is Overrated

Here’s the thing about perfection: it doesn’t exist.

The wedding dress will wrinkle. The weather might not cooperate. Someone will trip during the aisle walk. And you know what? That’s okay.

Actually, it’s better than okay. It’s real.

The weddings I remember most are the ones where things went “wrong.” Because those are the ones where people laughed. Where they held each other tighter. Where they let go of control and just… loved.

Lesson 4: The “Quiet” Months are When Magic Happens

July can feel slow. Quiet. Like nothing is happening.

But I’ve learned that those quiet moments are when I do my best work. When I plan. When I dream. When I connect with couples who are just starting to imagine their day.

If you’re reading this and you’re in the early stages of planning—welcome. This is where the magic begins.

romantic first dance at Grand Pines Reserve in houston

Lesson 5: I’m Exactly Where I’m Supposed to Be

Some days, I can’t believe this is my job.

Getting to witness love. Getting to capture laughter. Getting to hand couples a gallery of memories they’ll treasure forever.

It’s not just work. It’s an honor.

And I’m so grateful to every couple who’s trusted me with their story.

What I’m Excited About for the Rest of 2026

        • More engagement sessions that feel like dates.
        • More weddings that celebrate individuality.
        • More couples who aren’t afraid to be weird, wonderful, and wildly in love!

And I’d love for you to be part of that.

        If You’re Considering a Session—Let’s Talk

No pressure. No sales pitch. Just a conversation about what matters to you.

Let’s connect—I’d love to hear your story.

        Halfway Through 2026

What We’ve Learned About Love, Laughter, and Real Connection

It’s been a wild year. Here’s what we’ve learned about capturing authentic, playful moments—and why your wedding photos should feel like you, not a pose.

Halfway Through 2026: What We’ve Learned About Love, Laughter, and Real Connection

We’re more than officially six months into 2026, and honestly? It’s been a beautiful blur of confetti, nervous laughter, and some truly unforgettable dance floors.

June has a way of making us pause and reflect. The year is half over, but wedding season is just heating up. And in between editing galleries and scouting new outdoor locations, we’ve been asking ourselves one big question:

What have we learned so far?

Spoiler alert: It’s not about the perfect lighting (though we love golden hour). It’s about the people.

Bride and groom posing on the historic staircase inside Historic Heights Firehouse in Houston, Texas

What’s Working (and What We’re Loving)

        Playful Prompts > Stiff Poses

This year has confirmed what we already suspected: the best photos happen when you’re not thinking about the camera. We’ve doubled down on our playful prompts—the silly questions, the whispered jokes, the “walk toward me like you’re about to tell me a secret” moments. And you know what? The magic is undeniable.

One couple this spring started a full-on tickle fight during their engagement session. Another broke out into an impromptu karaoke duet. Those are the frames we cherish. Those are the frames you’ll cherish.

Couples are craving realness. Not the “stand here, tilt your chin, smile tight” approach. They want the in-between moments—the way you squeeze your partner’s hand during vows, the belly laugh when your best man forgets his speech, the quiet breath you take before walking down the aisle.

That’s documentary-style storytelling. And it’s not a trend. It’s a return to what actually matters.

Our Nerdy Couples Are Our FAVORITE

Okay, we’re biased. But the couples who bring their full, unfiltered selves—the ones who talk about D&D campaigns, debate Star Wars vs. Star Trek, and show up in mismatched socks—are the ones whose galleries make us tear up every single time.

Why? Because they’re not performing. They’re just… them.

What We’re Adjusting for the Rest of 2026

        More Time for Connection

We’ve realized that our favorite sessions aren’t rushed. So we’re building in more buffer time—more space for you to breathe, laugh, and just be together. No clock-watching. No “hurry up and smile.” Just you, your person, and a camera that loves you.

        Even More Input from YOU

We’re asking couples to send us their Spotify playlists. Their favorite books. Their inside jokes. The more we know about what makes you you, the better we can capture your story.

        What This Means for You

If you’re planning a wedding or elopement for late 2026 or 2027, here’s our honest advice:

        • Book your photographer early. The best ones are filling up fast.
        • Prioritize what matters. Is it the flowers? The food? Or is it having photos that make you feel something every time you look at them?
        • Trust your gut. If a photographer doesn’t get excited about your cosplay idea or your hiking elopement vision, they’re not your person.

Whether you’re planning an intimate backyard wedding, a mountain elopement, or a festival-inspired celebration with all your favorite people—I’m here for it!

Let’s make the second half of 2026 even more vibrant, playful, and beautifully you.

        Historic Heights Fire Station Wedding:

        Ali & Haisley’s Houston Celebration | 2026

Some weddings are designed for a photographer’s portfolio.
Ali & Haisley’s wedding was designed for family.

In March, the Historic Heights Fire Station in Houston became a wedding that felt less like a production and more like a giant, joyful family dinner where everyone just happened to be dressed up & cutting a rug.

Here is how Ali & Haisley pulled off a wedding that was intimate, loud, sweet, and unforgettable.

        Family First, Always

From the moment guests walked through the old firehouse bay doors, the tone was set. This was not a formal, hands-off affair. This was a come-hug-us, grab-a-cookie, find-your-cousin kind of day.

Ali and Haisley built their timeline intentionally—long enough to soak everything in, short enough that no one was checking their watch. The afternoon light through those historic windows did the rest.

The Details That Told Their Story

Grandma’s Sand Bread (Pan de Arena)
The sweetest detail of the day wasn’t on any vendor contract. It was Haisley’s grandma’s homemade cookies—sand bread in English—crumbly, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Tucked into tiny bags or stacked on plates, they were the first thing guests reached for. (And the last thing they grabbed on the way out.)

        Mariachi During Cocktail Hour
No playlist. No DJ fading between Top 40 tracks. Just live mariachi filling that brick-and-steel room with trumpets, violins, and raw heart. It turned cocktail hour into something felt, not just waited through.

        Phone Light Exit (No Sparklers)
Here is the modern, family-safe twist: instead of sparklers, Ali & Haisley asked guests to pull out their phones and turn on their flashlights. As they walked through the tunnel of glowing screens, it looked like a field of fireflies—romantic, quietly dramatic, and no one burned their fingers. Instant legacy photo.

        The Vendor Team

Ali & Haisley worked with an incredible all-local team:

        Final Word

Ali & Haisley weren’t chasing perfection
They just wanted a wedding that felt like them.

And in March, at a historic fire station in Houston, with sand bread in one hand and phone lights in the air, they got exactly that.

        Congrats to Ali & Haisley.
        Now go eat another cookie!

Travis + Jenny’s elegant country wedding

Branded Hats, a Cow Named Brisket, and a Mechanical Bull

February 2025 | Big Sky Barn | Houston, Texas

If you think all weddings are the same, you haven’t met Travis and Jenny.

Their February wedding at Big Sky Barn wasn’t just elegant. It wasn’t just country. It was unforgettable — the kind of night where guests left with sore feet from dancing, sore cheeks from laughing, and at least one story about petting a miniature Highland cow named Brisket.

From branding their initials into hats during the ceremony to riding a mechanical bull, every detail felt like them. And that’s exactly what a wedding should be.

Here’s a look inside their day.

        The Venue: Big Sky Barn

Tucked into the Texas countryside, Big Sky Barn (part of Walters Wedding Estates) was the perfect fit for Travis and Jenny. The warm wood tones, the rustic chandeliers, the wide-open skies — it had that rustic elegance Jenny was dreaming of.

February in Texas gave us crisp air and golden light. Cool enough for a jacket, warm enough for dancing under the stars.

The Ceremony: Personal Down to the Last Detail

Jenny’s aunt officiated — but not from an altar. She stood in the center of the aisle, right between Travis, Jenny, and their guests. The whole ceremony felt like a circle. Intimate. Inclusive. Like everyone was family.

Then came the moment no one will forget.

Travis and Jenny branded their initials into hats during the ceremony.

They heated the brand together, leaned in side by side, and pressed their initials into matching hats. It was a symbol of something permanent. Something they built together. And honestly? It might be the coolest wedding tradition I’ve ever seen.

        The Style: Elegant Country

Jenny wanted “elegant country,” and the details delivered.

Soft, romantic florals from Design Haus. Hair and makeup by Muse that looked effortlessly beautiful. A classic cake from Wendy Galvan. And a family heirloom — a vintage Ford truck — for golden hour portraits and the get away ride.

That truck against the Texas sky? Pure magic.

The Reception: Where Things Got Wild

This is where Travis and Jenny really let loose — and their guests went right along with them.

        The “Fat Heads”

The wedding party made their entrance with giant cutouts of Travis and Jenny’s faces — along with fake money launchers shooting cash into the air. Guests went wild. The couple grabbed each other’s fat heads at one point in the night and held them up on the dance floor. It was ridiculous, joyful, and exactly right for these two.

        The Mechanical Bull

Yes, there was a mechanical bull at this wedding. Multiple guests took rides under the Texas night sky. Some stayed on longer than others. Everyone cheered.

        And Then There Was Brisket

Brisket is a miniature Highland cow. Fluffy. Brown. Impossible not to love. He wore a little bow. Guests lined up to pet him. He didn’t dance or ride the bull, but he didn’t have to. He was perfect.

        The Late-Night Hotdog Booth

After hours of dancing and bull-riding, you need fuel. Enter: hotdogs at midnight. Best decision they made.

The Portraits: Golden Hour + a Classic Ford Truck + Night shots on the bridge

After the ceremony, we stole Travis, Jenny, and their wedding party away for golden hour portraits. The light was that perfect warm gold — the kind you wait all year for. We knocked out the standard couple and wedding party shots as the sun dipped lower and lower.

        Then came the truck.

The family’s vintage Ford truck joined us at the end of that session. Travis and Jenny leaned against the hood & in the truck.

        But we weren’t done.

Later that night — in the complete dark — we headed to the venue’s wooden bridge. We pulled the truck up, lit the scene, and kept shooting. Something about the darkness, the old wood, and that truck made the photos feel moody and cinematic. A completely different vibe from golden hour, and just as unforgettable.

        The Vendor Team

None of this would have happened without an incredible team behind the scenes:

        The Takeaway

Travis and Jenny didn’t just throw a wedding. They threw a party that felt like them — from the branded hats to the mechanical bull to the cow that stole everyone’s heart.

This is what weddings should be: personal, joyful, and a little bit unexpected.

The Last Wedding of 2025: Lauren & Elisa’s Brunch & Disco Dream

There’s something special about the final wedding of the year. It feels like a finale, a last chance to gather, dance, and celebrate love before the holiday hush sets in. And on November 23, 2025, Lauren and Elisa gave us a finale for the books.

This wasn’t just a wedding. It was a brunch party, a disco fever dream, and a masterclass in personal, handmade, heart-swelling detail.

        Friends at the Mic

From the very first moment, you could feel the difference. No rented officiant reading generic vows. Instead, their closest friends stood up and officiated with the kind of inside jokes, tearful sincerity, and joyful stumbles that only people who truly know you can deliver. It set the tone for the whole day: intimate, real, and full of laughter.

        Brunch Meets Boogie

The theme? Brunch and disco. Yes, you read that right. Think mimosas and fluffy scrambled eggs next to a glittering disco ball. The morning light poured in as guests feasted on the most important meal of the day, and by the time the syrup had been wiped away, the beat had dropped. It was weird. It was wonderful. It was so perfectly them.

        A Library of Love

The décor stopped me in my tracks. Old books—thrifted and salvaged—were stacked everywhere, their spines painted in soft, dreamy hues. It was literary, nostalgic, and deeply personal. And those painted books? They were the table numbers. Each stack proudly displayed a number in elegant brushstrokes, guiding guests to their seats in the most beautiful way possible.

But the place cards? Absolute perfection. Tiny illustrations of their cats, each one inside a speech bubble—as if the cats themselves were announcing the guest’s name. Picture a fluffy tabby “saying” Sarah in hand-lettered script. It was whimsical, ridiculous in the best way, and so utterly Lauren & Elisa. Yes, cats. And yes, it worked perfectly.

        The Two Brides

Let’s talk fashion. Lauren arrived in a sleek, show-stopping black jumpsuit—effortless, cool, and pure understated power. Beside her, Elisa was a vision in a stunning wedding gown draped in floral lace. Together, they looked like yin and yang, night and garden, complete magic.

But the detail that broke everyone’s hearts? Handkerchiefs. And a hair bow. Both were made from scraps of one of their mothers’ wedding dresses. Elisa wore that bow in her hair like a crown of family history. Love passed down, stitch by stitch.

        The Dream Team of Vendors

You can’t throw a brunch wedding without great food, and Houston’s own The Breakfast Klub delivered. (If you know, you know. The wings and waffles were legendary.) A close friend made the cake—delicious, and full of more love than any bakery could box. And the whole affair was held at Bien Venue, a space that somehow felt both airy and warm, perfect for disco lights and mid-morning champagne.

        The Last Dance of 2025

As the final wedding of the year, Lauren and Elisa reminded us of something important. Weddings don’t have to look like magazines. They can smell like coffee and old books. They can sound like Donna Summer before noon. They can be officiated by friends, sweetened by homemade cake, and stitched together with a mother’s wedding dress.

Lauren and Elisa didn’t just close out 2025. They threw open the doors and invited everyone in for one last, glorious dance.

Here’s to the last wedding of the year—and the first day of the rest of their beautiful, brunchy, disco-loving lives.

        Congratulations, Lauren & Elisa. 🕊️📚🪩
